What Happens Next?
Plant the mixtures according to the Planting Instructions pdf above. 50% of the acres will be a honeybee mixture, 50% of the acres will be a Monarch butterfly mixture... do NOT mix them together. The seed will be pre-mixed with a filler like rice hulls.
Just a few reminders:
Just a few reminders:
- The seed must be planted in or directly on top of soil, not on top of litter. The seed will only germinate if it has good seed to soil contact.
- Mixtures should be planted no deeper than 1/8 of an inch.
- Calibrate your equipment before seeding.
- You cannot fix a situation where you have seeded too heavily and end up using all of the seed on half of the acres you need to plant. You will be responsible for paying for any additional seed needed if you seed too heavily.
- You will receive project signs with your seed, post them adjacent to the field and set up a photopoint to document the planting, management, and growth of your project.

First Year Maintenance: Spring 2025 Mowing
Mow when the weeds are 16-20 inches high.
Mow at least three times during the establishment year.
Take NO more than 6-8 inches off the top of the weeds (mow before the plants get to 2 feet high).
When the weeds are thigh high, mow to knee high.
Maintain at least a 10–12-inch height when finished mowing.
A brush hog will likely be necessary to mow high enough.
