Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund Expands Solar Program with Hiring of Julie Knight as Solar Programs Manager
The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund (BBHF) is pleased to announce the hiring of Julie Knight as Solar Programs Manager, further strengthening the organization’s work with solar developers to establish high-quality pollinator habitat on solar sites across the country. As interest continues to grow in solar projects that deliver meaningful environmental benefits beyond energy generation, BBHF is expanding its capacity to support developers with practical, science-based habitat solutions.
Julie brings more than 10 years of experience supporting renewable energy projects through complex permitting, ecological assessment, and regulatory strategy. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with agencies, consultants, developers, and local communities to align renewable energy development with positive ecological outcomes.
In her new role, Julie will lead the growth and implementation of BBHF’s solar initiatives, including building strategic partnerships with solar developers, managing project contracts, supporting habitat implementation, and helping guide the program’s long-term direction. She will work closely with BBHF’s leadership team to expand the organization’s reach within the solar sector and help ensure projects deliver measurable benefits for pollinators, soil health, and surrounding landscapes.
Julie has also led national environmental programs and managed multi-gigawatt project portfolios, bringing extensive experience in both the technical and strategic elements required to deliver large-scale projects.
“Solar development presents an incredible opportunity to support both clean energy and ecological restoration,” said Julie Knight. “I’m excited to join the Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund and help expand programs that improve soil health, support pollinator populations, and strengthen long-term landscape resiliency.”
BBHF Executive Director Pete Berthelsen said Julie’s experience will help accelerate the organization’s growing work with solar developers across the country.
“Julie’s background in renewable energy, ecological strategy, and program leadership makes her an outstanding addition to our team,” Berthelsen said. “Her expertise will help us continue building strong partnerships with the solar industry while expanding pollinator habitat across the landscape.”
The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund partners with solar developers to establish high-quality pollinator habitat on solar sites, helping improve biodiversity, strengthen ecosystem function, and create landscapes that work harder for both people and pollinators.
