Next Steps Guide
Thank you for your interest in the Seed A Legacy program.
In order to be pre-approved, you must complete the following steps:
Please watch this video, read through our Habitat Establishment & Management Guide and check out our Frequently Asked Questions located at the bottom of our Seed A Legacy program page.
Step 1: Learn About the Program
Determine the site prep method you plan to implement AND take photos of the land in its current state.
If you haven't fully terminated the existing vegetation for one full growing season, you will need to determine your preferred site prep method. Please read the Habitat Establishment & Management Guide for more information regarding site prep and watch the video below. Timeline to plant varies depending on the site prep method you choose.
NOTE: Once you're ready to terminate, make sure your herbicide doesn't have a residual. Click HERE for more info. If you've already used an herbicide, you must make sure your herbicide's residual time frame has passed before planting.
Step 2: Decide On Site Prep
Find and record your GPS Coordinates AND create a 'shape file' photo of your land.
*You will be required to provide this information in the pre-approval application form.
How to find your GPS Coordinates: Enter the address of the proposed habitat project HERE. Scroll down below the maps to find and record your coordinates.
How to create a 'shape file': Open this map tool HERE. Click 'Satellite' and zoom in to your proposed habitat project location. Click on the red button that says, 'Draw on Map'. Use the tools on the left-hand side (the line with 2 dots would be best), to draw a line around the plot of land. Once finished, scroll down to the green 'Generate Link' button and record this link.
Step 3: Collect Coordinates
Once you've completed ALL THREE of the steps above, please click the button below to fill out your pre-approval application.
NOTE: With your application, you will be required to submit your GPS coordinates, the shape file link and a photo of the land in its current state.
Step 4: Apply for Pre-Approval
After completing the steps above and filling out the pre-approval application, you will receive a notification via email within 2 weeks on the status of your application.
If your pre-approval application has been accepted, you will then be asked to schedule a 1-on-1 virtual interview with one of our biologists.
If you've been accepted after the interview and haven't already done so, you may begin to prep your site.
Once your site prep is completed, you will receive an official contract to sign.
Once contract is signed, the seed will be sent to you. You will want to plant the seed in the fall/winter prior to February 15th.
Once seed has been planted, first year maintenance is critical. You will receive a link to our Seed A Legacy Cooperator Portal with more information.
