The Bee and Butterfly Habitat Fund, a collaborative forage initiative of Project Apis m., Browning Honey Company, and Pheasants Forever, is working in the Upper Midwest to put nutritious pollinator habitat back into the agricultural landscape.
Pollinators are some of the hardest working individuals on the planet. Day in and day out, these tiny workers travel from flower to flower, plant to plant in a never ending cycle. Their efforts allow for pollination, which is essential for plants to turn flowers into fruits and vegetables. Now, they’re facing an uncertain future. Habitat destruction is pushing them to the verge of extinction—however, there is still time to save them. The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund is dedicated to restoring habitat these pollinators need to thrive.
Habitat Tip and Management Videos
Putting the right plants in the right places
Just because a plant grows in your area does not mean your project is designed in a fashion that the plant will thrive on your project. This Habitat Tip outlines the process of trying to "put a square peg into a round hole" and how to make sure and carefully consider your projects objectives before you start.
Early Project Management: Key Mowing Considerations - Part 1
This Habitat Tip describes the key considerations of when and how to use mowing as a management technique in your new or young habitat projects. Virtually all new or young projects need management activities that control the early successional weeds that are bound to show up. When used correctly, mowing can be an important tool to help your project become established and looking like the pollinator habitat you envisioned when you started this journey.
